Ways a Bill Credit Lowers Your Bill

Bill credit plans are a great way to cut your natural gas costs. Learn how they work to reduce therm prices and save you money.
Learn how bill credit plans cut your therm price so that you pay less than other plans!

Yes, bill credits do lower your natural gas bill, but how much? Some natural gas suppliers tend to have higher rates. However, if they can offer other incentives, the end result is a more competitive monthly cost. For example, let’s take a look at natural gas supplier, Gas South. This supplier has the highest fixed rate for 6 month and 12 month contracts this month. But how do plans that feature a bill credit save you money? Let’s find out!

    Breaking Down the Bill Credit

This month, the Gas South 12 Month Fixed plan has the highest per therm rate, $0.710. But they are also the only supplier offering a $50 bill credit. So, how does that affect your costs over the period of the contract? According to the PSC, the average residence uses about 613 therms per year. That comes out to about $435.23 per year. Applying the $50 discount takes the annual cost down to $385.23, which essentially takes the per therm rate down to $0.628. That takes them down below the lowest fixed rate this month! Keep in  mind other charges apply, like delivery charges and monthly charges.

How Bill Credits Effect 6 Month Plans

Similar to the plans above, the Gas South 6 Month Fixed has the highest per therm rate, $0.710. Again, they are the only supplier with a $50 bill credit. Let’s break down the math for the impact of this credit. For just half the year, the natural gas bill for the average residence comes in at about $217.62. After the bill credit, that goes down to $167.62. This essentially brings the per therm rate down to $0.547. That rate beats the competition by a long shot!

Another Key Perk from Gas South

In addition to the $50 bill credit available on the 6 month and 12 month plans with Gas South, there is another strong incentive to switch natural gas suppliers. Depending on your credit and other factors, many suppliers collect a deposit. That can mean up to $150 out of your pocket. Although you get the deposit back in the end, it can still be hard for some customers to come up with that cash. Gas South never charges a deposit, so you keep more cash in your pocket!
