Although March begins the shoulder month period, April could offer even lower rates. So, snagging one of these plans allows you to wait things out with a cheap rate. Let’s check out your options for short term gas plans with the biggest price drops.

Biggest Price Drops for Short Term Plans

Current plan ending soon? A short term plan with a cheap natural gas rate could be the best move.

Firstly, we have the cheapest plan of the bunch. The Georgia Natural Gas® Market Intro plan has a $0.399 per therm rate. You also get Greener Life® free for 12 months which includes a 5¢ per therm discount. This plan lasts for 2 months with no ETF and no monthly charge. The rate for this plan is down from $0.899 per therm last month. That’s quite a drop!

Next up is the Scana Energy Introductory Variable Rate plan at $0.599 per therm. The plan has a $5.95 monthly charge. But you also get a $5 credit per month for up to 20 months. This plan is down from $0.699 per therm last month.

Finally we also have the Gas South Intro Variable plan at $0.690 per therm. This plan has a $6.95-$9.95 monthly charge. The rate for this plan stayed steady from last month. But, keep in mind that Gas South doesn’t collect a deposit.

Remember that intro rate plans jump up to the provider’s standard variable rate (SVR) after the first month or two. So, it’s important to find a cheaper alternative to avoid overpaying later with the SVR! According to the Georgia PSC, the SVR for these provider’s this month are as follows.

  • Georgia Natural Gas®: $2.259 per therm
  • Scana Energy: $2.090 per therm
  • Gas South: $2.110 per therm

Fixed Rate Short Term Option

Depending on your needs, a fixed rate short term plan might be better than an intro rate plan. So, for more options, check this one out.

It’s the Gas South 6 Month Fixed. The rate is a solid $0.590 per therm and you lock it in for 6 months. This plan doesn’t set you up for spring shoulder months, but it does set you up to shop for cheap rates in fall. There is also an offer for $50 in bill credits over 10 months. The monthly charge is $6.95-$9.95 and the ETF is $150.

Our Recommended Short Term Gas Plan

When considering our recommendation, we’re looking at affordability and flexibility. In my opinion for both cases, Georgia Natural Gas® Market Intro plan is the winner. The plan has the cheapest rate by far for affordability. Plus, it gives you the flexibility of two months to figure out what you’re going to do next without the risk of an ETF.
