New customer sign up.

(5 / 5)

The customer representative that helped me get signed up as a new customer, "Evelyn", was so kind and helpful to me. The kind of CSR that makes every effort to make sure she has provided you with all information, etc. to make your call with her an appreciated and pleasant one. She definitely gets a 5 star review from me ! :)

Great service with great price

(5 / 5)

It was very easy to switch and the price is very satisfactory. So happy to know I have this price locked for 2 years and I hope i'm able to get just as good a deal when that happens. Paying online is easy and I like the weekly usage report I get for our electricity. Makes the upcoming bill expected and less of a shock. Very happy with Champion Energy Services.

What about the little guy, the elder, those on fixed incomes

(5 / 5)

This title suited our situation to the "T". Retired, therefore elderly, in good health still, but getting no younger, on fixed income. We were looking at about a 33-50% cut in our income, with energy bills continuing to rise. The options available to us for electricity were no options at all, the cost was too high after the first year. Were there no means of relief? Finally, we went to a website that compared all energy companies in Texas with all their differing plans. There we found a company called 4Change Energy, a company we nor our friends nor neighbors had heard of. But we checked them out,and found a plan the caused my jaw to drop; 1000 kwatts at 4.7 cents /. I called to confirm this was no typo, but legit, it was. the only catch was that I needed to remain at or below 1000 kwatts/ billing cycle or pay another 47$ for any amount over and above 1000. I was unsure if we could achieve this goal, but we signed up and did the best we could. raised the thermostat 2 or 3 degrees in the summer night, 4-5 during the day and installed a propane heater for the winter months, which is very economical. I have to give credit where credit is due, the LORD encouraged us and enabled us to see this plan work for us, we did, it did and we praise God for His wise council. We must thank god also that He showed us this company that has made it possible to maintain our reduced budget and not suffer undue hardships due to high energy costs. Thank you 4Change Energy, may The God of Heaven bless you if you will Bless Him.

Customer Service hangs up on you.

(2.6 / 5)

After being asked my account # and details by three different people transferring me, it became a bit frustrating. I simply wanted to know if the account for the house I sold was payed and closed, while my service was transfered to my new home. One gentlemen told me I had cancelation fees. Another gentlemen said I didn't because I transferred. It quickly became confusing and monotonous as my last transfer was a young man. I told him it was a bit reputicious to transfer and continuously ask the same account info and security questions while never answering my simple question. He just hung up on me. I had to call back and get a manager to answer my question. She was kind and helpful, but during the entire conversation, it sounded like a party in the background with coworkers joking and laughing in the background about daily affairs. I didn't say anything because they may hang up agian. I'm going to start shopping for a new provider.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

(1.2 / 5)

This company is deceptive. Their FACT sheets are not factual. I was basically told I was incapable of understanding their billing process and that the rates posted on powertochoose.org were not the actual rates, only examples.

Just make it right

(1 / 5)

I was a Green Mountain customer for over four years. I just found out they switched my account with my neighbor and I own a tiny house so I overpaid severely for over 3 years. Basically this happened because I owned both houses until 2015. When I sold one house they took me off the wrong account. Oncor discovered this error (they called it an inadvertent gain in electrical lingo) during an investigation and now Green Mountain refuses to correct it. They even reported me to the collection agency for refusing to pay the last erroneous bill. My neighbor said their last bill was 32.77 and mine was 247.00 so I am not paying it I only owe 32.77 (which makes sense because I moved out and turn everything off but the fridge). I think I estimate I have paid about 1500.00 to much over 3 years. And also when I cut off my service my neighbor actually had service cut off instead because accounts were switched and they had to go to a motel in the middle of the night with their 2 year old and then they had to pay a 500.00 dollar deposit to have service turned back on even though I had cut it off. In addition to that my neighbors were told to get an electrician to come out when it kept getting cut on and off. It cost them 800.00 and they will never see that money again. BEWARE YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED about how they do business. I am now contacting an attorney, filing a complaint with the Texas Public Utility Commission, and the Attorney General. Update: Someone contacted me after this post from GM and during the conversation confirmed that they received a report from the December 17th Oncor investigation on December the 26th. They put me on hold to file a dispute for reimbursement then came back and abruptly told me they could not help as it was under investigation with the Texas Public Utility Commission and the other department handling the matter had not concluded or discovered the error yet. Really????? Really???? Will the other department ever discover that error??? I will keep this updated. Its one thing to make a mistake-we all do and the average consumer knows this. Its another not to make it right. I will update this post if Green Mountain comes clean and treats me fairly. I want to be fair but I don't want anyone going through what I have gone through.

Cant believe they do business and are still in business

(1 / 5)

I recently wanted to switch electrical companies and from the sells lady everything sounds great until they shut my electricity off on a Saturday and couldnt turn it on. I called on Saturday morning at 9am to make sure they were going to switch the power over to there provider and they informed me that it would take 24 hour so I checked back at 3pm and they informed me that it would take until Monday. Well long story short lost all my father in laws insulin and about 800.00 in food. If I could of just got the truth this would not of happened I would of had my old electrical company stay on until just no energy turned it on. Not to mention the supervisor hung up on me 2 time or they call it disconnected without a call back. Use at your own risk

CAVEAT EMPTOR

(1 / 5)

Purchase from Startex ever again? _ _ _ _ No.
I ordered a variable rate plan that started at a wonderful rate- about $0.072 per kw. They do mention that they can raise the price at their own discretion at any time. What they never mention in the terms is that yes, they are about to raise your rate after only one month of the promotional rate and yes, you will be shocked at how cavalier they are about dinging you once you have been roped in.
The idea that anyone would agree to have their rates raised by 64% after only one month (from 7.2 cents to 11.8) is so ludicrous that it won't enter into your thinking as a reasonable prospect, unless someone tells you in plain language that it will happen and that this is apparently routine business to Startex- hence my review here. Don't take a promotional rate unless you have done an exhaustive study of how your account will be handled after the first short period of service. They leave all mention of that out except by inference in "legalese".

Bad policy

(1 / 5)

I am a reliant customer. Unfortunately I had my credit card stolen. I thought that I had contacted all companies who had the card on file for automatic draft, but I forgot reliant. Due to a returned payment in December 2017, I could no longer have an automatic draft on a credit card until May 2018 despite explaining the circumstances. Needless to say this policy is creating an uneccesaary hassle. While occasionally forgetting to get bills in on time, I never had an issue with providing a credit card number, and the bill not being paid. I will be switching companies to one that is more understanding of their customers needs.

TXU is shady, and they will rob you blind

(1 / 5)

Prices for kwh are way higher than competitors, and when I called saying I was going to cancel because of it, the representive acted like TXU could care less, so I canceled as a result. A $400 cancellation fee is absurd, and a complete rip off. It's really frustrating and dissatisfying to hand over hard earned money, and get absolutely nothing of value in return.
