But if your plan is ending, or you&#8217;re in a variable rate, right now could just be the best chance to shop!<\/em><\/center><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Are Long Term Plans a Good Buy Right Now?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With temperatures <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/products\/predictions\/long_range\/seasonal.php?lead=2\">hot and climbing<\/a>, Summer pricing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiagassavings.com\/resources\/understanding-your-natural-gas-bill\">Atlanta Gas Light (AGL)<\/a> customers is in full swing. So you&#8217;re r<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ight to be cautious about shopping long term natural gas plans! But if your plan\u2019s expiring, or a bad fit, you might have no choice. The problem is, won&#8217;t signing now just lock you into an inflated rate long-term? And shouldn\u2019t you just hop onto a variable plan \u2018til the shoulder months?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well &#8211; not necessarily, and absolutely not. It sounds counter-intuitive but there are still some great long-term rates out there. Some, moreover, with cheap early termination fees &#8211; this means you can easily ditch them if something better comes along in the fall! Let\u2019s see how shopping long-term now could, in fact, save you money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Best Natural Gas Prices to Shop Now<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Price spikes this summer will skewer any customers on a variable rate plan. If you absolutely must, go (cautiously!) for an intro rate deal. Try <\/span><b>Gas South\u2019s <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiagassavings.com\/plans\/gas-south\/details\/acquisition-variable\"><b>Acquisition Variable<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for one month at 29 cents per therm. This way, you&#8217;ll give yourself some more time to shop. Also, you could earn up to $20 in bill credits, with a moderate recurring monthly charge of $6.95 &#8211; $9.95.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the mid-term, <\/span><b>Georgia Natural Gas\u00ae<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offers a<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiagassavings.com\/plans\/georgia-natural-gas\/details\/6-month-fixed\"><b>6-Month Fixed<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plan at 55.9 cents per therm (discounted until August 4th), with a great $4.99 &#8211; 7.99 monthly recurring charge. Bear in mind: the early termination fee (ETF) is only $50, so you can easily tap out if a better shoulder month plan comes along. Furthermore, they credit up to $150 to cover exit fees from a previous provider.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Shop Cheap Long Term Plans<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s unwise to seal a 12-month deal now and see it through: you&#8217;ll be shopping again during this same pricey summer period. But consider this: the <\/span><b>XOOM <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiagassavings.com\/plans\/xoom-energy\/details\/surelock-12\"><b>SureLock 12<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plan\u2019s 39.9 cents per therm rate is cheaper than the <strong>Georgia Natural Gas\u00ae<\/strong> plan\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with only a $5.85 monthly recurring fee. The ETF is $100, but if you switch to a <strong>Georgia Natural Gas\u00ae<\/strong><\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plan in the fall, their credit switch-incentive will cover this for free!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Longer than 12 months, and the cheap rates and low ETFs dry up. The <\/span><b>24 Month + Water Heater Protection <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plan from <\/span><b>Constellation <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the cheapest, but is still 48.9 cents per therm. You\u2019ll get free water heater protection (check if yours is compatible), but the ETF is $150 and the monthly recurring charge is pricey at $7.95.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Things aren\u2019t rosier at the 36 month mark: <\/span><b>SCANA\u2019s <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiagassavings.com\/plans\/scana-energy\/details\/36-month-fixed-with-60-in-bill-credits\"><b>36 Month Fixed with $60 in bill credits<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offers a 56.9 cents per therm rate with a $6.95 monthly charge, and the ETF is $300. If you want a low rate, or a plan you can dump, this isn\u2019t the best bet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How to Shop Long Term Gas This Summer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So in summary: it\u2019s no disaster if you need to shop long term natural gas this season. <\/span><b>XOOM\u2019s SureLock 12<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a great rate long-term. Moreover, if you simply want a fixed rate over summer that you can ditch in fall, both <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiagassavings.com\/plans\/xoom-energy\/details\/surelock-12\"><b>SureLock 12<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <strong>Georgia Natural Gas\u00ae<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiagassavings.com\/plans\/georgia-natural-gas\/details\/6-month-fixed\"><b>6-Month Fixed<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offer good rates with manageable ETFs.
